Pushing boundaries in pâte de verre through conferences, exhibitions and workshops
The Contemporary Pâte de Verre Association (CPdVA) was founded in 2022 by four international pâte de verre artists to offer a platform for discourse and investigation via conferences, workshops, exhibitions and speaking engagements around the world.
By pushing out boundaries within both glass art and sculpture for the expression of contemporary narratives the CPdVA’s aim is to further the debate in the international glass community and beyond of pâte de verre’s expanding role in glass making.
The CPdVA comes out the successful publication of the recent ground-breaking book ‘Pâte de Verre: The Material of Time’ by Max Stewart and Tone Ørvik, 2022.
We welcome collaborations and requests.
Sustainability
CPdVA are committed to contributing to sustainability in our craft.
Max Stewart’s 2010 PhD thesis details colouring glass with ceramic oxides and metallic salts. Some recipes are listed in the book ‘Pâte de Verre: The Material of Time’.
Tone Ørvik’s research focuses on cast glass and pâte de verre using recycled glass, such as container glass cullets, tempered glass and float glass.
Evelyn Gottschall Baker fires her kilns with electricity, 80% of which comes from solar panels. Evelyn also makes frit from glass left over from other projects, and re-uses powders left over from her experiments and exploration.
Tali Grinshpan collects left over powders from her and other artists’ experiments to use in her work. Tali also creates her own powders and re-uses glass in her practice.
